White 2024 - 2025

Miss Coxhead

Welcome to White Class - Year 1 & 2 with Mrs Cass

'Where only our best is enough'

I can't wait to make lots of memories this year as we begin our journey in White Class!

Read the information below and take note of some important information.

Start and finish times: White Class door opens at 8.45 - 8.55 ready in time for registration at 9.00. The school day finishes at 3.30.

PE Day - Monday. Please send your child to school in active uniform (white tshirt/ black jogging bottoms/leggings and black trainers). Please ensure that your child does not have earrings in on this day and that long hair is tied up.

Forest School - Thursday. Please send your child to school in active uniform (white tshirt/ black jogging bottoms/leggings and black trainers).   Please ensure that your child does not have earrings in on this day and that long hair is tied up. Please also ensure your child brings in their forest kit.

Library Day - Friday.  Please make sure your child brings their book bag into school to exchange their library book every Friday.

Homework will be handed out on a Friday to be completed and returned the following Wednesday. Your child's homework will be mainly phonics based and will enable them to rehearse their phonics learning from that week. Please see the front of your child's homework book for the list of common exception words that your child is expected to read and spell by the end of the year (it can also be found below).

Reading is the key to success! Please ensure your child reads their school reading book every day. This only needs to be 5 minutes. Reading every day gives your child the best chances of success in all areas of learning.

The power of reading holds the key to success – it not only underpins everything we learn about but it also stimulates curiosity, intrigue, an active imagination and helps us to think critically and analytically so let’s work together to make your child be the best reader they can be! You can help by listening to your child read and by reading to your child (bedtime stories are a wonderful way). Don’t forget to sign your child’s reading diary too – extra credits/ 'smiley faces' are given for this😊.

Times Tables

What are the advantages of your child learning their multiplication tables?

The key advantages include:

  • Application in daily life.
  • Integral to developing basic mathematical building blocks.
  • Building confidence with more complex tasks.
  • Gaining a conceptual understanding of multiplication and deeper thinking process.
  • Improving problem-solving abilities.
  • Developing key skills and 'number sense'

How can you help?

Regular practise chanting 2, 5 and 10 timetables

Counting forwards and back wards in multiples of 2, 5 and 10

Random verbal times table questions e.g.  what is 2x5=10

'Smiley Faces' are given to your children for their efforts and behaviour. These are our version of 'merits' and merits earned go towards your children gaining their Bronze, Silver, Gold and Honours certificates, and finally the prestigious Badge (this is a special achievement which is presented at the end of the year in our end of year assembly).

Attendance matters and everyday counts! Please ensure your child arrives on time and is ready for the school day ahead. If you have a problem, please let me know as soon as possible. Missing school means missing learning and learning builds from one day to another.

Early help and early intervention are forms of support aimed at improving outcomes for children or preventing escalating need or risk. If for whatever reason you and your child are struggling and feel you need help, please do ask. School staff may be able to advise, offer support or signpost you to the people and agencies who can.

Just a gentle reminder that all clothing is labelled as it makes our job a little bit easier ihn class and remember to bring a coat and wellies to school every day, we will play outside whatever the weather.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions

Thank you for your continued support.
