Year 6 SATs

This page has a wealth of information to help you and your child in year 6.

How can I help my child in Year 6?

1. Keep on reading

As ever, it is still important that your child continues to read, both alone and to you, as much as possible. It is never too late to develop a love of reading. Spend time finding the best books for your child – make sure to look at some of the year 6 recommended reading books on the links below. At the bottom of this page you will find a supporting reading at home document which has lots of question prompts and information to help with your child's reading and understanding at home.

2. Prepare for SATs and transition to high school

You will probably want to support your child in the lead up to the SATs and them moving onto high school. Working with your child, when needed, will help you see where they need the most support. At thte bottom of this page you will find our parent guides on reading, spelling, punctuation and grammar and maths along with plenty of links to websites with games, mini quizzes and support on areas in maths and literacy. Below you will also find the Year 5 and 6 spelling list of words that your child should practise regularly.

3. Help with homework

For parents in Year 6, the most important thing is to continue to help where possible with reading, homework and times tables whilst encouraging even more independence than in previous years. Your child will possibly learn more during this year than any other that it is their own hard work and effort that matters, not someone else’s.
